INPUT outlines $180 billion in federal business opportunities for 2010

Reston, Va. - INPUT has released its list of the top 20 federal contract opportunities for government fiscal year (FY) 2010. The new top 20 list represents more than $180 billion in total contract value, a 50 percent increase from last year, and derives 63 percent ($113 billion) of its total value from civilian contract vehicles. INPUT’s research also reveals the top trends shaping the FY2010 list, including increased civilian contracting opportunities, significant recompetes of existing contracts, and an emphasis on leveraging task order-based contracts.

“As the new federal fiscal year begins, INPUT is once again delivering details on the key contracting opportunity trends through its Top 20 Federal Business Opportunities of FY2010 report,” says Kevin Plexico, senior vice president of INPUT research and analysis. “Through this research, we are seeking to arm vendors with actionable data to help them in their business development planning.”

Despite the increase in civilian opportunities, the 2010 Federal Business Opportunities report reveals that defense procurements maintain a significant presence in FY2010, making up 12 of the 20 total programs listed. The dominance of civilian programs is mostly due to the fact that several large civilian contract vehicles are up for recompete next year.

In addition, due to the FY2009 economic crisis and the transition to a new administration, FY2010 will in many ways be a continuation of the Administration transition. Major programs of the new administration have not had time to develop into major requirements in FY2010; 90 percent of the top 20 Opportunities are considered recompetes of existing contracts providing ongoing support of existing government operations.
