The Mil-Aero Command Post

Where great military and aerospace minds meet.

What's is happening at FLIR Systems in Portland, Ore.? It seems company executives and engineers are doing something right. Have you noticed all the recent announcements about new military contract awards and orders for its EO/IR solutions? Case in point: today the company announced $30 million in delivery orders to the U.S. Army, and just in March, company execs revealed $57.7 million in Army orders. Is demand for EO/IR technologies growing? Are these steady and significant orders as a result of a new technology or marketing tack? I am fascinated, and would love any info. Thanks!

Yes, EO/IR tech is growing. There are new sensors coming out that are better and faster than older sensors. There are much better lenses now available. So far as FLIR the company is concerned, they have a great product line. They know what they are doing and they are taking to task all other companies in this market. FLIR is not the least expensive, but their products work, period.
